Juneteenth Celebration of Black Life
Over 500 community members enjoyed live performances and vendors during the Juneteenth Celebration of Black Life. Friends of GCC joined the USTA as proud sponsors of this inaugural event. Youngsters from across the city participated in free tennis clinics and giveaways throughout the day. Joseph James, the first black member of Germantown Cricket Club, spoke on the dynamic firsts of the event and history of Germantown.
Supporting Squash Smarts
Friends of GCC provides financial support to SquashSmarts. SquashSmarts is a free intensive out-of-school time program supporting the lives of Philadelphia’s public school students. SquashSmarts is a non-profit academic and athletic mentoring program with a proven track record of keeping kids in school, in shape, and on track for graduation. Dedicated to improving the lives of underserved youth from Philadelphia public schools , SquashSmarts provides intensive, long-term academic tutoring and squash instruction, while imparting high standards of personal integrity, health and fitness, and service to the community.” Finally, a long-term, seven-year commitment is made to each child to ensure success by providing a team, a family, a safety net and a sense of belonging.
